ASUS UL30Vt-X1 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop
I read lots of reviews and decided to go for UL30VT-A1 but didn't find it as expected. Everything is fine but i give 4 to this product because of these two things, which made me regret:
1. The glossy screen is really awful when you are on light; don't expect to find any descent view angle even inside your room if you open the windows. You'll really have headache all the day looking at this glossy screen unless you are inside a room (no light from outside).
2. Chiclet style keyboard is really nice, but the build quality is poor. It's not sturdy at all; it makes strange sounds when i press the LEFT ctrl key; feels like it's gonna come off. In short, there is lot of flex in the keyboard and feels like keys are not fixed firmly.
No complaints on size, weight, battery life and overall performance. it's really nice laptop for this price. Maximum battery life it shows even in power saving mode is 10hrs (never goes beyond that even at full charge), so I don't quite understand how they say 12hrs??? yet, it gives 6-8 hrs with normal computing and that's a lot !!
Touch pad is insensitive and it takes some time to get used to it. It really irritates you if you got some sweat on your finger... So, it may not be a right choice if you always use touch pad (don't wanna carry a mouse); it's not a major concern for me as I use mouse most of the time.
Others(minor points):
# Bloatware: it comes with lots of bloatware but you can find a list of unnecessary ones. I just spent half an hour googling and removing them...some are useful as well. Only those i have now are: ControlDeck, LifeFrame, SmartLogon, Power4Gear, Power2Go. all others are gone !
# If anyone interested in UBUNTU: I installed ubuntu 9.04 and it is running perfect !!
# Power brick: my friend had UL30A-A2 and it had really small and nice adapter but this has a bigger one; almost twice bigger and also 3-point power cord; the ground terminal might not be necessary. I guess the charging time becomes shorter with this bigger power brick because it's 3.42A, the other one must be 2 something.
# Heat: it is really cool as compared to my old VAIO.
