i bought this drive to put in my macbook pro unibody late 2008 computer and for quite a while, was annoyed at how slow it operated. I could not find a solution right away. I tried repairing disk permissions, re installing the os, downloading macpilot and secrets, nothing would speed this thing up. Then i came across a post on the apple forums which explained---
Reliable and rugged - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark(tm) parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
Using drives with a built in equivalent of the MacBooks Sudden Motion Sensor can cause problems. You may want to try to disable the Sudden Motion Sensor in your MacBook and see if that helps:
So, i disabled the sudden motion sensor in my macbook and instantly, the computer's speed improved dramatically and is now working normally and very fast. I now love this drive and the extra capacity it provides.
